The Rubket was a brief project in the course D0037A – Design: Theory and Practice. The assignment was to design and build a toy using only wood and rubber bands.
My concept, the Rubket, takes the form of a small rocket. It is assembled entirely with rubber bands — no glue or screws — which also allows it to be easily taken apart and reassembled.
The rocket is designed to support a child’s development, offering different types of play depending on age. For younger children, it encourages tactile exploration: holding the pieces, taking the rocket apart, explore the colors, and discovering how the parts fit together. As the child grows, the toy evolves with them. It can be used for imaginative play as a rocket, but also as a way to begin recognizing letters, matching pieces, and assembling the rocket so that the blocks align with names, windows, and landing legs.
When the Rubket is not fun to play with anymore, it can be a perfect bookshelf piece to bring back good memories.
This is Henry. He is the designated user of the Rubket (in a while).
